The design of Rapid's Quantum EF™ drilling fluid system is a fundamental change in the way a drilling mud is manufactured. Its a change in thinking into how a mud can be produced in a "green" way. Its not an add-on or a simple replacement of certain toxic or even less-green ingredients. The Quantum EF™ represents a totally new approach to building a green drilling fluid with performance in mind. Its a great new innovation in drilling mud design. We refer to it as "green chemistry that works."
At its core the Quantum EF™ is a plant-derived fluid system capable of meeting the extreme challenges in many applications such as building angle and drilling extended laterals in the development of unconventional gas shale wells. Lab analysis reports an interesting distinction in that Quantum EF™ contains over 95% "new" carbon, when translated this means it contains renewable carbons as compared to a carbons derived from crude oil. It contains zero aromatic hydrocarbons. This environmentally safe "eco-friendly" drilling mud system has proven it is an effective replacement for both oil based drilling muds (OBM) and water based drilling muds (WBM).
The unique "patent-pending" ingredients making up Rapid's Quantum EF™ drilling muds were specially selected for their high degree of safety toward workers and the environment along with their high performance characteristics in drilling muds. In the past, many drilling muds labeled as "green" may have met biodegradability standards, but failed to meet the performance requirement when applied in the field. Rapid's Quantum EF™ drilling mud systems are proven effective on the job as a direct replacement for traditional oil based muds, synthetic oil muds and water based muds in some of the most challenging drilling conditions.
Safety is in the mind of all who work in the oil & gas industry. Its hard to think of how many traditional mud products may be dangerous to rig workers and for our environment. Not all ingredients, but many of them can cause health problems for rig workers and compromise our environment.
At Rapid we recognized the need for a cleaner and "greener" drilling mud able to meet both the needs of the exploration company for performance, and at the same time offer a much cleaner, safer approach. We feel we've achieved our goal with Quantum EF™, a drilling mud produced from safe plant-derived ingredients that are able to withstand the harsh and challenging downhole environment conditions, outperforming the traditional muds. At the same time when the job is over the residual mud and cuttings are able to meet all environmental standards to return to the environment.
